About Us

Sarus Originals is the creation of Michael and Emma Crane. As with many innovative products our range of practical, colourful, functional wall art stems from the frustration of not being able to find quite what we were looking for.

We knew we wanted storage solutions that could cope with the clutter that goes hand in hand with family living whilst retaining a sense of design, fun, and individuality. We were looking to incorporate more colour into our home but also wanted a product that was tactile and had the warmth of wood.

There are many colourful and vibrant wall hooks on the market but almost all are powder coated metal which was too harsh for the look we were trying to achieve. We tried painting some oak hooks but these couldn’t cope with day to day wear and tear. Instead we explored the use of Valchromat, a product we were familiar with from our kitchen cabinetry.

Valchromat is ecologically sustainable and hard-wearing. It combines the natural features of wood with the brightness of colour created with organic dyes. We began to experiment with the product and after a number of designs settled on the simple but elegant GEO hook. Although initially created for use in our own home it was clear from friends and family that there existed a demand for handcrafted, colourful wall hooks and Sarus Originals was created.

Since then we have added to the range and continue to do so. All of our pieces our made by us in our East Sussex workshop, sanded and oiled by hand with care and attention. If you have any questions or feedback, or a request for a bespoke design then please don’t hesitate to contact us.
